1. Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Paloma Ruiz-Hernandez, and my pronouns are she/her. I am a Mexican-Canadian Taurus woman, a Child and Youth Worker, and an Experience Associate at Idoru – a new avatar-building app focused on self-expression and creativity. I paint, write and move my body.

2. What does feeling beautiful mean to you?

In many ways, feeling beautiful to me means achieving balance. When I find the perfect balance between embracing chaos and seeking familiarity and comfort, I feel my truest self and that is beautiful. Any time I feel off balance, I lose myself and have learned to take that as a signal to take care of myself to feel beautiful again. Sometimes that is as simple as sitting in front of a body of water for a little while or ordering a bowl of ramen.

3. What do you like to wear closest to your skin?

I really love a shock of texture against my skin. I love rolling around in hot sand, jumping into cold water and then cocooning in a big cozy sweater. Or the pure body warmth that comes from stepping out of a hot bath, moisturizing my skin, and crawling into comfy sheets.

4. What do you wear to feel most like yourself?

I feel most myself when my wardrobe reflects my mood. I love clothing that allows for movement when I feel like I have a lot on my plate, linens when I feel safe and sleepy and earth-toned tight clothing when I feel energized and sexy.

5. When do you feel most confident?

When I find synergy in communication with another person. This doesn’t necessarily mean always finding agreement, but rather holding space for one another. That’s when I am confident – when I am sure of what I am putting out in the world and what I am open to receiving. So a phone call with my mom or a small moment with friends become building blocks of who I am.

6. What makes a place feel like home?

I am going through a bit of an upheaval with my concept of home lately. It’s been hard and has left me really vulnerable at times, but it has also made me realize the things that make a place a home. Listening to ambient music, sitting in natural light, sleeping on comfortable sheets and using the tools I need to make my favourite Mexican dishes provide a general sense of safety and help me adapt to any new space.

7. Are there any self-care rituals that are important to you?

Yes, All of the rituals to bring me home are the rituals that take care of me.

8. How does wearing Fortnight make you feel?

Wearing Fortnight makes me feel that sense of balance I am always seeking. I feel supported and sexy like I am allowing my body to move exactly the way it needs to.
