1. Who are you and what do you do?

I’m a creative working in music and fashion. I make music as PANQUEQUE, and design as Tala Kamea. My music is emotional, melodic, and lush. I write on a piano or guitar, and then produce electronically in Ableton. My design aesthetics are broad – I love geometric minimalism, Rococo maximalism, tech-forward athletic wear, trashy club clothes… These days I mostly design for myself and my friends, occasionally taking on a bridal commission, or costuming a short film. I also work at Horses Atelier, working hard to produce jumpsuits for the matriarchy.

2. What do you like to wear closest to your skin?

Sandwashed silks and the softest jerseys. Beautiful lingerie. Give me a gracefully draped silk dress blowing in the wind. Cocoon me in a lightweight fine jersey turtleneck.

3. What does feeling beautiful mean to you?

Feeling beautiful means being seen, feeling loved. It means being comfortable with and confident in myself. That means wearing things I’m excited about, pieces that I’m in love with, pieces that have served me well. It means taking time to do my hair/makeup when I want to. It’s being able to live in a moment, and feel all the things you might feel. Raw emotion. Some days I don’t feel so beautiful – those days I don’t feel like myself. So, I guess feeling beautiful is feeling like I’m being my true self.

4. What do you wear to feel most like yourself?

So many things. I go through phases, transitions, moods. Some favourites: zip jumpsuits from Horses Atelier, Cuban heels in the form of Ann Demeulemeester ankle boots and vintage cowboy boots, a silk crepe slip dress I made, crop tops with high-waisted anything, my totally destroyed Vans. On my hands, a silver skull ring by In Objects We Trust, and the sapphire ring I inherited from my Lola. We shared the same birth month.

5. When do you feel most confident?

Rocking a killer outfit. Crafting a beautiful thing. Dancing alone in my living room. Crushing tasks with great efficiency.

6. What makes a place feel like home?

The people inhabiting the space.

7. Are there any self-care rituals that are important to you?

I always take time to get my nails done. Enjoying a pain au chocolat. Applying essential oils before bed. Spending time with loved ones. Playing and writing music – this is my form of meditation + prayer.
